Hiring a Practice AdministratorA Practice Administrator is a health care profession hired to be responsible for the administrative control of the department or practice. This employee is a key component to the success of its team; their expertise in clinical innovations, business, finance, and human resources in collaboration with other team members is responsible for the growth potential of the organization. Practice Administrator’s may have a variety of backgrounds. These candidates can be health care professionals such as physicians, nurses; who received advanced training in business management, or, business / finance professionals who have focused their career to the health care industry. No matter what their education or background, what is paramount in this individual is their knowledge and foresight of health care, ability to collaborate with other members of the team, and ability to be innovative. A practice administrator is responsible for running the business while the physicians concentrate on the direct care of the patients (along with other members of the clinical team). Careful consideration must be taken when hiring this individual. The hiring official should speak to former employers as well as any clinical preceptors. All members of the department or practice should meet with the candidate to ensure he or she is in-line with the groups practice, philosophy and vision.
